There are very slim chances of Aprilia launching the SR GT range in India soon
Aprilia has launched its first adventure scooter in Japan in the form of the SR GT 200. The SR GT range made its global debut at the latest edition of EICMA to be held in Milan, Italy in November 2021. The SR GT range is available in two variants: 125 and 200, the latter being recently introduced to the Japanese market.
The scooter is designed to occasionally hit the beaten track while remaining practical for the daily commute. That is why it is rightly labeled as an ‘urban adventure scooter’. True to its nature, the SR GT features wider handlebars, long-travel suspension and block-pattern tires.
Aprilia SR GT200 – Design
Going into detail, the SR GT’s design is striking, drawing inspiration from other Aprilia models with a few elements borrowed from the SXR range. Essentially, the SR GT is a Maxi scooter with an ADV-esque attitude. This results in edgy styling with signature tri-LED headlights up front on the apron.
It shows off signature ADV elements such as a smoked front windshield and a heavily streamlined front panel. The excessive use of cuts and creases give the scooter an aggressive appearance.
Thanks to the Maxi styling, a huge transmission tunnel is placed between the rider’s legs, giving him/her the experience of a motorcycle. Wide handlebars and slightly forward footpegs give the rider a comfortable riding position.
The footpegs are bordered by silver-colored panels that give the impression of a metal bash plate. A sharp-looking tail section with a sturdy one-piece handle and a sharp upward exhaust bushing enhances the sportiness of the SR GT 200. Add in a pair of colored alloy wheels, black or red, and bring plenty of attention to the scooter.
Striking graphics and a slim frame further accentuate the SR GT 200’s on-road presence. In terms of equipment, the SR GT is offered with full LED lighting, an LCD instrument panel and an automatic engine start/stop system. Aprilia offers the MIA connectivity technology as an optional add-on. It has a tank capacity of 9 liters.
Hardware, powertrain specifications
SR GT 200 is supported by a double-cradle frame that sits on 33mm telescopic forks in the front and dual rear shocks, both derived from Showa. Braking duties are handled by petal-shaped discs with 260mm and 220mm rotors front and rear respectively. SR GT 200 rolls on 14-inch front and 13-inch rear wheels shod with knobby dual-purpose off-road-friendly tires.
The SR GT 200 is powered by a 174 cc single-cylinder engine that produces 17.43 hp at 8,500 rpm and 16.5 Nm at 7,000 rpm. It is available in two variants: standard and sport. The former will be offered in three color schemes, namely Aprilia Black, Street Gray and Infinity Blue. For racer-colored paint options, buyers can opt for the Sport trim which is available in three different colors such as Street Grey, Red Raceway and Street Gold.
