Honda currently sells four scooters in India: Acitva 6G and Dio in the 110cc category and Activa 125 and Grazia in the 125cc category
Honda’s two-wheeler business has suffered in recent months. Sales fell by more than 30% last month. Honda has plans to launch new scooters and motorcycles in India to boost sales. They also have plans to launch electric scooters.
Honda has filed design patents for 3 new scooters in India, images of which have now been leaked online. Honda has in the past brought scooters with a somewhat unconventional look such as Cliq and Navi. However, both models failed miserably in the Indian market.
New Honda Scooter Design Patents
Therefore, this time Honda has opted for a more conventional yet distinct design that meets the requirements of a commuter scooter. The styling has been kept simple and it looks like the scooter will be aimed at a large number of buyers. It could be a 110cc or 125cc offer as the design looks too austere for a 150cc category power scooter.
We have already talked about the Honda X-ADV scooter, which is patented in India. In addition, two more scooters are patented. One of the patents was filed on February 19, 2021, the other on October 18, 2021.
The patent images show a scooter powered by an IC motor. The headlight is mounted in the center of the front apron, while the turn signals are located on the front side panel. The floorboard looks flat and spacious, indicating that it would be a practical offering.
It gets a one-piece saddle with a raised passenger seat and a flat tail section with a one-piece grab bar. The muffler is sideways and flat, while the taillight appears to be mounted high. Aside from under-seat storage, it looks like the scooter will also offer some storage in the front compartment with an open opening.
Since any of these new Honda scooters are expected to be a budget offering, we don’t expect it to be packed with all the tech and gadgets. However, it will likely include all the basics, including LED headlights, an under-seat charging point, a semi-digital instrument console and an integrated self-start and engine dead switch. Bluetooth connectivity is probably not part of this package.
Expected Engine Specifications
When introduced in the 110cc guise, it will be powered by a 109.5cc single-cylinder air-cooled engine delivering 7.6PS and 8.8Nm of peak torque. This unit is mated to a CVT gearbox and powers Honda Activa 6G and Dio. The other option is with a 125cc engine that delivers 8.1 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and maximum torque of 10.3 Nm at 5,000 rpm. This engine performs tasks on Activa 125 and Grazia.
At this time, there are no specific details about this patent filed by Honda. It has not yet been confirmed whether this model will go into production at all. However, this is not the only trademark filed by the company. It was recently reported that Honda has filed a trademark for the CBR150R in India.
