The demand for electric two-wheelers, especially scooters, has increased visibly in the recent past. With an exorbitant increase in fuel prices in recent months, consumers have slowly but gradually switched to electric mobility. This has led to the launch of several electric two-wheelers in the past year.

One of the leading EV manufacturers in the two-wheeler space in the country – Okinawa Autotech will launch a new electric scooter very soon. Ahead of its launch, slated for March 24, 2022, the Gurugram-based EV brand has been teasing the upcoming battery-powered scooter on its social media handles.

New Okinawa Electric Scooter – Styling

Recently, an Okhi 90 test mule wrapped in camouflage was spotted during a test that appeared to be an almost production-ready model. A pre-production prototype of the same was previewed at the latest edition of AutoExpo in 2020. Speaking of the exterior design, Okhi 90 has a wide front bumper with a pair of LED daytime running lights and coaxial mounted turn signals.

A single-pod LED headlight cluster is mounted on the handlebars, while the rear-view mirrors are embellished with chrome in a previously spotted test mule. The scooter rides on large alloy wheels, while a thick floor plate suggests that the battery panels are installed under the scooter, which would give the scooter better stability.

Other notable highlights include a raised passenger seat, a sturdy one-piece, a silver-finished grab handle that extends to a large rear cargo rack and a wide tail lamp. It gets a wide LED tail lamp reminiscent of the Aprilia SXR 160.

Expected Battery Specifications

Details about its powertrain have not yet been disclosed, but reports indicate the Okhi 90 will have a removable lithium-ion battery that should provide a claimed range of 150-180km on a single charge. When using a fast charger, the battery can be drained to 80 percent of its capacity in up to 60 minutes. It is expected to reach a top speed of 80-90 km/h.

Expected Features and Hardware

In terms of features, Okhi 90 will be offered a fully digital instrument console equipped with Bluetooth connectivity. The display will show a range of crucial information such as speed, charging distance, etc. The system will include a built-in e-SIM that will provide a host of connected features such as geo-fencing, navigation, diagnostics and more. The e-scooter also gets two riding modes – Eco and Power, which can be switched via the right side of the switchgear.

Speaking of hardware, it looks like the Okhi 90’s suspension will consist of upright telescopic forks in the front and dual shock absorbers in the rear. Braking duties are performed by disc brakes at both ends and most likely aided by ABS. The scooter will be manufactured at Okinawa’s new factory in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan, which was recently inaugurated a few weeks ago.
